So, it’s almost been a year since I have written anything for MaddowMania. Rest assured, my love for that sharp-tongued, liberal, flannel-donning policy wonk hasn’t ended, but to make a long story short, I had some shit to handle. However, I want to start back up now so I can cover an entire year of the clusterfuck of retarded known as the impending Presidential race. Just based on the way thinks look at present, this shit is gonna be FUN.

However, upon reflection, I realized compared to Hannah’s posts from when we started worshipping up in this piece, mine SUCK. Why? Because I don’t have pictures. I know that wasn’t my department when we started this, but MAN do they make a post. I can’t decide if this is because of our visual nature as people, or because of Maddow’s innate, intimidating beauty.

Oh, totally the latter.

Anywho, probably the most interesting part of the show last night, besides the crazy turkeys (seriously, look that up), was the hilarious assertion by the Republican party that they “don’t have time” to discuss the American Jobs Act. Why? Because limiting abortion is WAY more important. I think the funniest part for me was when a Republican actually had the nerve to say that the scariest place for a child in America is Planned Parenthood.

That’s funny, because I have been to Planned Parenthood, and there were children there. They seemed fine. They were even playing on a jungle gym.

Holy shit, that does look dangerous.

Anywho, silly Republicans aside, my personal favorite part of the episode was a tribute to Frank Kameny, civil rights hero, a trailblazer for the fight against Don’t Ask Don’t Tell by fighting discrimination of gays in the military, in 1957. Impressive, right? Not quite as impressive as this shirt Maddow was wearing when posing with Kameny.

After a google search and some thumbing, I saw Maddow wearing this shirt (or one like it) on Jay Leno! Seriously! Maddow, do me a solid and wear this shirt every day? I mean, it’s the least you can do for such a loyal fan. And the blue glasses? Nice touch. They can come too.

I don’t have a lot to say about last night’s episode, other than that I think

a)Maddow’s little fake Republican ad regarding incest was hilarious.

b)It is so adorable how awkward she 1)is getting complemented on her appearance and 2)with bad words.

That is just my warm up blog. I swear I am getting back in the game.

Ok, so I know Meredith strongly disliked Rachel’s lactose intolerant metaphor in the Dec. 7 episode. I, however, found it ridiculously funny. And by that I mean, funny by how ridiculous it is. So here, I’ll let you be the judge:

Ok, so the most adorable thing on the Dec. 3 show actually belonged to TRMS producer Bill Wolff and his unapologetic love of fight songs. They devoted the first 4.5 minutes of the show to this, and it is SO worth watching:

I love this. I love this because I totally get it. I played trombone at my high school for seven years. I am a huge band nerd. Just this morning in fact (ANECDOTE ALERT) I went to my high school’s annual holiday concert. Which every year since the beginning of time ends with the Upper School concert band playing “Sleigh Ride.” And the ENTIRE SCHOOL goes nuts. Clapping, dancing, and just getting giddy. It officially marks the beginning of all that is good about the winter holidays. The percussionist who gets to make the whip noise becomes known school-wide for it. Seriously. It is awesome.

So I totally get why Bill Wolff was able to make this unabashedly nerdy exit in the name of fight songs:

No, really. I do. Because I haven’t posted in FOREVER. But see, I bought a new laptop on Saturday. But then I gave them my old laptop to transfer all my files, and it took until Wednesday(!). And yesterday I just forgot the login info and had to bother Meredith about it. But on the plus side…..Macbook Pro.

So let’s see…where was I? Oh yes! December 2! My dad’s birthday! You didn’t get him anything? Don’t worry, it’s cool, I’m sure he understands……..this time.

Anyway: One of my favorite Rachel modes is indignant mode. Like the way she treats this notecard during Debunktion Junction, for instance:

In my fantasy in which I bring you a large mound of tortilla chips covered in guac-laden, sour cream infused queso while you watch the Superbowl in a wife beater and boxers, I would really prefer that queso not be vegan queso sans sour cream.

It was nice to see some anti-Obama rhetoric on Maddow’s show last night. It’s been difficult for me to even watch Maddow lately, as the evidence piled up that Barack Obama was indeed about to extend the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. And, as predicted, here comes the “inexplicable capitulation”:

The Republicans get everything they want. In exchange, the Democrats get…something they probably would have gotten anyway. An extension of unemployment benefits. It’s saddening that any hopes of Obama emerging as a real progressive leader have died this Christmas season. Another sad death: the passing of Elizabeth Edwards, a personal hero of mine.

But wait! I know what can make this all better! A wack-nut quote from Christine O’Donnell!

“Tragedy comes in threes. Pearl Harbor, Elizabeth Edwards’s passing and Barack Obama’s announcement of extending the tax cuts, which is good, but also extending the unemployment benefits.”

Aaahh. God bless us, everyone.
